INTERVIEW PREPARATION
&
SALARY NEGOTIATION
WHAT
DO I SAY AFTER “HELLO?”
A
job interview, like public speaking and going to the dentist, is a situation that most people would rather avoid. We have a tendency to think of an interview as a “grilling,” one or
more people sitting across a desk from us, shooting question
after question, in shotgun form. Just thinking about having
an interview—and most people will look for the nearest exit!
What do you say when an interviewer asks: “What
was your previous salary?” or “What compensation are you seeking?” Just
the thought of this scenario and chills are already running up your
spine!
One thing you can count
on---they will ask you those questions! During your interviewing
coaching, we will address this issue, and I will give you tools that
will help you through this necessary portion of the interview. Everyone
is uncomfortable when the salary issue is interjected. Researching your
salary, and planning what you are going to say is critical. I will help
you create answers with which you will be comfortable.
A+ Resumes & Career Coaching’ goal is to help you prepare so that
you are “head and shoulders”
above any other candidates. ADEQUATE
PREPARATION
is the key. Remember, success is
relative to the amount of time you devote to preparing for the
interview!
A+ Resumes & Career Coaching WILL HELP YOU:
-
Manage all three
phases of the interview process:
1) Advanced interview
preparation
2) Answering interview
questions
3) Interview follow-up
|
-
Create an appropriate introduction for
the dreaded opening request:
“Tell me about yourself.”
|
-
Turn a negative question into a positive answer.
“What are your weaknesses?” is a good example.
Can you answer that question comfortably?
|
-
Use
your resume to sell transferable skills by
articulating similarities between your work history
and what you bring to this new position and/or
company.
|
-
Create
answers that cover the question. Interviewees
oftentimes give too much information and talk
themselves right out of a job.
|
-
Handle the “salary issue” with confidence
|
-
Create questions
that will give you critical information, which will assist you in
deciding if the position meets
your personal and professional criteria.
|
-
Take
charge after the interview. Learn how to
maintain control of the process and keep the “ball in
your court.”
|
-
Evaluate the interview: “What went well? What
needs improvement?"
|
A+
Resumes & Career Coaching will assist
you
in creating answers to questions such as:
-
What
compensation are you seeking?
|
-
What do you
have to offer us that other candidates cannot?
|
-
What are your weaknesses?
|
-
Have you ever had a conflict with a team
member?
How did you handle it?
|
-
As a manager, have you ever had to fire
anyone?
What were the circumstances?
|
-
What do you know about our company?
|
-
What
was your previous salary?
|
-
Why did you leave your last job?
|
-
We
have other candidates that have had more experience in this field
than you; why should we hire you
